The winning team

After months of planning, voting and deliberating, we can now announce that Cornell University has been crowned the winner of the INNovation Room competition.

The team’s innovative ‘Palette’ concept best matched the competition's selection criteria, offering a room service alternative with healthy, locally-sourced, ready-to-eat food around the clock.

The eye-catching concept also uses a state-of-the-art payment system with label sensor tags to charge guest rooms directly.
Top hotel management schools from around the globe battled it out in the competition, so congratulations to Cornell University for their success!

The Competition

Teams from leading hotel management schools were invited to take part in the INNovation Room kick-off event at the Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre in September 2016.

At this three-day event, students had the chance to hear inspirational talks and exchange ideas with peers from around the world, before further developing three innovative ideas they believed would help revolutionize the Park Inn by Radisson guest experience.

In November, the teams submitted just one idea for consideration by the INNovation Room contest judges in the hope of being shortlisted for the public vote.

For each public vote received, Park Inn by Radisson supported youth at risk of unemployment by donating 1 USD to Youth Career Initiative (up to a maximum total amount of 25,000 USD), the hotel industry’s global solution to youth unemployment. Terms and conditions apply.

The two ideas with the most public votes moved to the final stage of the contest where the contest judges selected the final winner.

Youth Career Initiative

Every time a vote was cast during the public voting phase, Park Inn by Radisson made a donation of 1 USD up to a maximum total amount of 25,000 USD to Youth Career Initiative, the hotel industry’s global solution to youth unemployment, of which Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is a lead supporter.

The Youth Career Initiative, the International Tourism Partnerships’ youth employability program, is a 24-week education program, which works with major hotel chains including the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

It is aimed at disadvantaged young people with limited or no opportunities of finding employment or continuing in further education after high school. The program empowers young people to make informed career choices, it enables them to become employable and break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion, helping to prevent exploitation.
