Port Sultan Qaboos
Port Sultan Qaboos is strategically located in the heart of the Gulf of Oman to the south of the Straits of Hormuz. The port is on the main shipping route for vessels carrying cargo between Asia, Europe and Africa, with its location makes it the ideal regional gateway to other Gulf Ports.
Business travellers will be well placed to reach Port Sultan Qaboos from the Park Inn by Radisson Muscat hotel. The hotel is centrally located on Sultan Qaboos Street which quickly takes travellers from Muscat International Airport to all central areas and the port.
A Sea-faring Nation
With the location of Muscat right on the Gulf of Oman, it comes as no surprise that the natives of the Sultanate are a nation of sea-farers. Since time immemorial the nation has reached out to the rest of the world by sailing across the ocean and trading goods. The many coastal ports of Oman were part of the well-known historic silk trade route.
In the 18th century Oman saw an increase in trading activity at its two main harbours in Muscat and Mutrah. Muscat became the centre for naval operations at that time. After a period in which trade was reduced HM Sultan Qaboos began to encourage maritime commerce in 1974 with the modernisation of what was previously called Mina Qaboos and is now best known as Port Sultan Qaboos.
