The Story of Duqm
Duqm is a quaint, charming fishing village situated 550km from the capital city of Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman. Natural landscapes, pristine beaches and desert geology are what makes this place unique and gives it special qualities.
This port, with a quay currently stretching as far as 4km, is positioned on the Arabian Sea, and beyond that, the Indian Ocean. As the second largest dry dock in the Middle East it has the potential for massive development. It is so ideally placed that it is on the main shipping routes from Europe, Africa and Asia. In order to bring Duqm into the 21st century, a development plan known as the ‘Special Economic Zone’ is currently in place and is set to include an international airport and housing for 100,000 people. This plan also includes the sustainable development of the area’s tourism industry and beach-front hotels, such as the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel & Residence Duqm
The Next Dubai
The Sultanate of Oman has large goals for this port town, and envisions that in the future it can be a valid competitor to Dubai as a trading hub for the region. Just 20 years ago Dubai was not much more than desert landscape. The transformation has been incredible and still continues to this day. Duqm is forecast to follow in its path and develop in the same way.
