Discover Dubai Museum

For those expecting Dubai Museum to be a contemporary building you are mistaken. The museum is actually housed in the oldest surviving part of the city, Al Fahidi Fort. This is a perfect reminder of the city’s humble beginnings and its rise from a desert village to one of the world’s greatest megacities.

The Highlights
At the museum you will be taken on a journey through time. Displays and interactive exhibitions plot out the journey of Dubai’s past before the discovery of oil, which changed its course of history forever. This colorful museum depicts marine life, including the life and work of peal divers and merchants, and ancient archeological findings providing clues into the past dating as far back as 2000BC. The re-creations of houses, mosques and souks display traders and craftsmen hard at work. These exhibitions also use videos and photography to give you a glimpse into Dubai’s cultural heritage. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop and pick up your souvenirs before you leave.

Explore the historic Al Fahidi Fort
Al Fahidi Fort dates back to 1787 and is Dubai’s oldest building. It, therefore, has a very important place in the heritage of the city. Over the years this fort, made primarily of coral rock, has been lovingly resorted and protected and has housed the museum since 1971. The fort was originally a guard tower to protect the village residents from unwanted visiting tribes. During its past, it has also functioned as a prison, palace and a military garrison.

Dubai Museum and other city attractions are within easy reach of the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel Apartments Al Rigga. The hotel makes the perfect base for exploring museums and galleries, Creek Park, the Gold Souk and for shopping at the city’s world-renowned malls.
