Be mesmerized at Deira Gold Souk

Dubai is named the ‘City of Gold’ with good reason and it comes at an affordable price. The Gold Souk, a souk being an Arabic market or bazaar, is the best place to be impressed by this dazzling metal. The selling of gold started in the 1940s when traders from India and Iran set up stalls in Dubai. The market has developed over the years but the Indian and Iranian influence can still be seen in much of the goods that are sold here.

Over three hundred shops and stalls, set in a labyrinth of passageways, display what feels like floor to ceiling gold. It comes in all shapes and sizes, with original designs unique to Dubai. There are also plenty of other types of jewelry sold here including platinum, diamonds, silver and other precious stones and metals.

Purchasing genuine articles
Haggling is expected at the souks and retailers will start at a higher price if you are showing interest in purchasing an item. It is also worth shopping around as items can be found in more than one stall and prices vary. Most major credit cards are accepted but you may be able to buy something cheaper if you offer to pay in cash. Buying from the souk guarantees genuine vendors that adhere to the strict Government rules. This is often not the case for street vendors, so to be on the safe side, make your gold purchases at the souk.

The Gold Souk is situated in the heart of the Deira district. It can be easily reached by public transport from the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel Apartments Al Rigga. Make sure you plan a visit here when staying in Dubai. The glamor of this bazaar will definitely impress you and you may even find the perfect piece of jewelry to take home with you as a lasting memory of your trip.
