Romania’s National Museum of Art

Tucked into the former Royal Palace of Bucharest, The National Museum of Art of Romania is a must see attraction when visiting. Not only will you get to discover works of art from across Europe and Romania, you will step into a historically important building, the Royal Palace.

Check out the three galleries

There are three galleries inside the palace; The European Art Gallery, the Romanian Modern Art Gallery and the Romanian Medieval Art Gallery. In the European section, you can find great works of art such as The Annunciation and The Return of the Prodigal Son among many more. If you are interested in Romanian history, you can check out the medieval section and see items and paintings that span five centuries. There are more than 9,500 medieval Romanian works and in the Modern Art exhibition, you can browse over 10,000 items.

In addition to these great galleries, the museum always has some excellent temporary exhibitions. Artists from across the world exhibit their work within the palace walls and grounds. View their website to see what artists are being featured during your visit.

Step inside the Royal Palace

Construction of the palace began in 1837 as a mansion for Wallachian Prince Alexandru Ghica. Since that time, there have been many extensions and some disasters. Shortly after part of the building was destroyed during WWII, the national gallery was officially inaugurated. Unfortunately, many items were destroyed during a battle in 1989 in the fight against the communist regime of the time. However, after ten years of renovation, the palace was reopened along with the museum.

This wonderful museum and palace is only 150 meters down the road from Park Inn by Radisson Bucharest Hotel & Residence. Grab a comfortable room with an excellent city center location and enjoy walking distance to many of the city’s best spots.
