See some of Africa’s mighty waterways from Tete
A former Portuguese colony and long before that a native trading centre, Tete experiences the Zambezi Valley’s noted heat and humidity. From Tete city centre, the hotel's guests can enjoy an excursion to the cooler airs of the remarkable dam at Cahora Bassa—meaning “where work stops” in local dialect. The dam creates Africa’s tenth-largest body of water, channelling the power of the rapids that once stopped Livingstone’s explorations. Near the dam is Songo, a garden-filled town good for bird watching.
Back in Téte city centre, the hotel's guests can enjoy the sunset with a drink in one of the small bars and restaurants lining the Zambezi. Boroma, home to a beautiful 19th-century mission, makes a good day trip, with possible crocodile or hippopotamus sightings along the way.
