The Neoclassical Winter Theatre
The Winter Theatre is one of the main landmarks on the Sochi skyline, as well as a cultural institution. The neoclassical style building was constructed in the 1930’s. It is easily recognisable by its exterior façade which supports 88 columns. The stunning architecture also continues on the inside of the building. The large hall is decorated with ornate cornices, even more gold coated pillars and a grand chandelier. The building is well-loved by locals and is meticulously maintained, ready to welcome Russian and international artists and enthusiastic theatre-goers.
Sochi International Winter Arts Festival
The Winter Theatre is one of the two main venues for The Sochi International Winter Arts Festival. This successful annual event was founded in 2007 and has grown to be a major draw not just for the Russian calendar, but on the European Arts Festival circuit. Sochi has quickly built up a good reputation for many performers and musicians. The festival encompasses and crosses many genres, including the best of opera, classical and ballet, as well as jazz and modern music concerts. Each year Russian and international artists join in the celebrations, and each year ticket numbers increase as audiences flock to see them perform.
