If you like a good old fashioned circus show with performing animals, trapeze artists and funny clowns then Ekaterinburg Circus is the place to visit when in the city. Russia is renowned for world-class circus acts and this is your chance to experience one. The building is instantly recognisable by its impressive transparent dome; one of only two in the world built in this style. Constructed in 1980, it is another major feature on the city’s skyline. It is a popular venue for locals and those visiting the city.
The interior of the building features marble harvested from the surrounding Ural Mountains, making for a truly elegant entrance. Inside, the circus is divided into two main areas. The main performance hall is where all the action takes place on the stage, encircled by seating. Additionally, there is a rehearsal hall. In total, there is a capacity of over 2500. A full house here makes for a great atmosphere and an unforgettable evening. It is possible to meet the animals and even have your photos taken with them. There is also a dedicated museum, which will guide you through the history of the troupe. In the grounds outside, there is also a funfair.
Choreography and clown festivals
The performances are carefully choreographed and much time, training and dedication goes into perfecting each show. As well as the in-house troupe, many famous touring companies have performed here to sell out crowds. The circus is also used for charitable events and each year up to 50,000 people attend performances and donate to good causes. One of the year’s most anticipated events is the World Festival of Clowns. It is the first of its kind. The best clowns gather from Russia, Europe and USA to perform in the international language of mimicry and gestures.
The Circus is located 2km from the Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg Hotel
, making it the perfect accommodation for a cultural night out.
