One of the most fascinating aspects of Rubenshuis is the studio space located on the grounds. Here, Rubens worked with pupils, assistants and colleagues to create some 2,500 original and copied works commissioned by clients all over Europe. At Rubenshuis, Rubens would create the works on small oil paintings, supported by assistants who would undertake creating the work on a larger scale before Rubens would add any finishing touches.
Using paintings from the time, along with detailed notes and books found in Rubens's library, Rubenshuis house and grounds have been restored and recreated to closely resemble the house similar to what the painter would have lived in. Inside, visitors can see notable works such as Rubens's famous self-portrait.
