Your port of call for funYour port of call for fun
The Port of Antwerp is surrounded by the second largest harbor in Europe and houses the second largest chemical terminal in the world. This waterfront space stretches for miles and is a perfect place to take a stroll while admiring mankind’s industrial accomplishments. The views are stunning and ever changing as mega vessels drift past. Cycle your way along and enjoy the fresh air, do some fishing or check out the wildlife at the nature reserves that birds and wild horses call home.
Along the port, you will find the Red Star Line Museum
where you can discover the history behind European emigration to America. Visit the architecturally beautiful MAS Museum by the water and enjoy a meal on their outdoor terrace or check out the old part of the port. The older sections of this waterfront marvel are decorated with giant warehouses that give a rustic feel and nestled in between you will find hidden bars and restaurants.
Boat cruise around the harbor
Want to get out onto the water? Then take a boat tour and get a great view of the on-goings at the harbor. The Jan Plezier Boottochten Company
organizes two or five hour cruises to take you from the quays across to the water locks, around this huge shipping space and even inland to admire some fauna and flora. These trips are a highlight for those interested in the mechanics of the industrial scene and for those who want to do something different.
If you are looking for some activities to do while at the harbor, the Badboot, the ‘bathing boat’, has it covered. On board you can swim in the outdoor pool regardless of the season. Enjoy the sun, view and water as you float around in the summer, or hop in the warm spa-like waters during the winter. When it gets cold there is also a skating and curling rink, or even laser tag.
The port is a perfect place to unwind when in the city. When finished exploring, head back to the stylish and convenient Park Inn by Radisson Antwerp
