Its replacement was opened in 1891 and fast became Zurich’s most important space for opera, drama and musical events. Renamed the Opernhaus Zürich in 1925, the venue was rebuilt in the mid-1980s, restoring its former glory with an ornate neo-classical façade and busts of classical music icons including Mozart, Wagner and Weber. The interior is designed in a neo-rococo style, with space for around 1200 people.
