Francorchamps: The world's most feared racetrack
As the site of the Belgian Grand Prix, the Spa 24 hours and the 1000km Spa Endurance, Spa Francorchamps earned its reputation as the most intimidating racetrack thanks to hairpin turns, unrelenting hills and hazardous surroundings off the track. One famous stretch, the Eau Rouge, sends drivers downhill toward a patch of rusty water, only to experience a vicious turn and change in direction uphill.
Despite the challenging layout of Francorchamps, drivers must maintain high speeds in order to win their races, making it especially dangerous for drivers, but exciting for spectators. The Francorchamps track also underwent redevelopment in 2007 and 2010, with some of the features changing slightly in order to accommodate a new pit lane.
